Well we got the week off to another great start for winning the Headteacher’s trophy for the second week in a row.  The children were very excited standing up in assembly again!  Here were are with Sonny and Hollie showing off the trophy:

We have also been so busy again this week that I seem to have forgotten to take some photos!  Oh well, I will just have to tell you all about our week.  The children have started to make their felt faces for the ‘Superhero dolls’ we are making this term and Mrs Playford said that they have tried really hard with their sewing.   We have also been thinking about how special and ‘super’ we are and made our own medals to remind us.  We have started to learn our class poem for Harvest festival and I can’t believe how quickly they are picking it up!  I’m sure that we are going to have just as much fun next week and I promise that I will try to remember to take more photos!

Many thanks to the parents who have left comments already.  It’s the only way that I know you have been looking and it really does make it seem worthwhile doing as it is quite time consuming – I actually get quite excited when I log on and see that I have a comment pending – yes, I do need to ‘get a life’!

I just wanted to let you know that when you do leave a comment, it won’t be published immediately, so don’t think you’ve done something wrong and that you need to do it again.  What actually happens is that the comment comes to my e-mail to be approved by me,  as a safety measure so that I can make sure only ‘ appropriate’ things are shown as the site is viewed by the ‘world-wide’ web!  Thanks again and keep looking!

Wow, what a busy, busy week we’ve had – so busy that I don’t seem to have had time to take many photos!  We started the week in a great way by being joint winners of the first Headteacher’s award this year – for receiving the most golden tickets.  We shared the trophy with 2B – well done 2B! – and had a reward of an extra afternoon playtime with them on Wednesday - it was great fun to be able to celebrate together!

On Monday we went back to Superhero movement school in PE and this time we explored moving like Superheroes on the apparatus.  We found lots of amazing ways to travel on, over, under and even through the apparatus!  Here are just a few ‘interesting’ shots!

In Thursday’s PE lesson we started to learn Tai Chi which is all about controlling and co-ordinating our body movements so that we don’t become like Hong Kong Phooey – do parents remember that he kept getting stuck and crashing into walls (or am I older than you?!?)  Unfortunately Mrs Langford got so involved in Tai Chi that she forgot to take photos!  Sorry I’ll try to do better next week!

Well at last we finished our Superhero lifesized paintings and the corridor looks F.A.B.!  We have written our name badges to go with them so I’ll take some photos of them when I’ve matched labels to heroes next week.

Well that’s it for this week I think, hopefully I’ll remember to take more photos next week, but I can’t promise because I’ve just re-read my planning and it looks like we’re in for another busy, busy week - it’s a good job that we are all Superheroes . . . up.. up and AWAY!!!!!

As a round up to our entry work to our new topic we had a ‘Dress like a Superhero’ day on Friday.  This really helped to enthuse and stimulate the children’s interest and ideas for the work we will be doing over the coming term.  We had a fantastic (if noisy!)  day and the costumes were amazing with ALL 60 children in 1S and 1L dressing up – some came as known Superheroes and some made up their own new characters - all looked fabulous.

I would like to say a BIG BIG thank you to all the Mums, Dads and any ‘other’ costume makers for your fantastic support – it was greatly appreciated.  Here we are looking well . . . . SUPER!:

(some of the pictures seem a bit ‘cropped’ but if you click on them they will show full size and then ‘back arrow’ to go back to the whole set again – hope that makes sense??!?)

We finally achieved a full class this week and Mrs Langford managed to get us all together for a class photo!  Here we all are looking rather fabulous!

Well, we’ve completed our first full week at school and the children have been really great.  The week has consisted of lots of talking about our new topic (Superheroes – incase you didn’t know!), further exploration of the classroom and lots of creative work painting life-sized superheroes of everyone – 30 life-sized paintings in 1 week? I don’t know how we managed but we did!  Here’s Alice and Emily painting their superhero pictures:

A great big welcome to all the new parents and children joining class 1S.

Although the children have only been in school for two days, we have already got to know each other really well and I know that it’s going to be a really great year for all of us.  As I said in my ‘newsletter’, I am a keen blogger and I hope that you will find this site interesting and informative and if you have any suggestions or requests for things to put on it, please come and let me know.  As I also said, please leave a comment if you read the site – a simple ‘hello’ would be fine.  It just makes it seem worthwhile doing if I know that parents are reading the posts.

The children have had a busy but hopefully fun couple of days, sorting rules and routines, finding out where things are etc and are now hopefully ready to get down to our new topic of ‘SUPERHEROES’ next week.

Here are just a few photos of what we’ve been getting up to:

On Thursday, Sophie came to teach us how to improve our golf skills.  She taught us how to do the ‘scarecrow’ with our arms and fingers, which then helps us to remember where to place our hands on the club.

We played some putting games and we all had a great time.  Mrs Langford thought that we  behaved so well and tried so hard that we all had to have a house point!  However, as with most competitions, there was a winning team and here are Yellow team looking suitably proud for achieving the highest score:

Sophie also chose two people who she thought had made the most effort and showed good technique – and they were Ryan and Lexie – well done to you both!

Hello everyone – I can’t believe that this is our last term this year!

This week we have been following a special topic – Denmark.  A little while ago some of the schools in our area took part in a ‘World Cup draw’ during which they all drew out a team – ours was Denmark.  Now that the World Cup is starting, we have been finding out about our chosen team and we will be following their progress through the tournament.

We started our week by finding out about the World Cup tournament itself.  During our PE lesson we had a go at trying out some of the skills needed by the players – dribbling, passing and shooting – Mrs Langford was very impressed with our skills!

We also had a go at making our own World Cup medals.  We looked at some pictures of medals from previous tournaments and had a go at designing our own.  We then made them out of salt dough ( 8 hours worth of baking in Mrs Langford’s oven!) and painted them gold because we are all winners.  Here are Ellie and Joshua showing off their medals:

On Tuesday we started to learn about the Vikings who travelled from Denmark a long time ago.  We had a go at making Viking helmets using papier-mache – it was very gooey but great fun!  They’re not quite finished yet – more photos to come:

SDC10843

Here’s Joe and Samuel with a Viking longship that they made using Mobilo:

SDC10826

We made Vikings swords and axes using card and foil – but were are not going to fight with them because that’s not what we do in 1S!    Joshua and Joshua even managed to make Viking swords and axes using multi link – well done for independent thinking boys!

SDC10851

Abigail and Jacey had a go at making Viking boats from tin foil and experiementing with them to see if they would float! – do you think that they did?

On Wednesday we found out about a very famous Danish writer called Hans Christian Anderson.  We watched an animated tale of one of his stories ‘The Little Mermaid.’   Mrs Langford told us that in the original version the Little Mermaid died – after a discussion we all decided that we liked the updated Disney version with its happy ending better!

We also thought about what we would choose to be if we could be half creature-half person like the Little Mermaid – there were some very weird ideas!   We also made our own character finger puppets so that we could retell the story to our families and friends.  Here’s Charlie and Liberty working hard on their puppets:

Lastly on Friday, we did some investigations into the the new World Cup flavour crisps – Mrs Langford always seems to manage to get food into a topic!  Some of the flavours tasted a bit strange.

SDC10853

Joshua’s comment was very true: ” some taste better than they smell but some smell better than they taste!”  Couldn’t have put it better Josh.

SDC10852

Here’s the table of our findings – can you work out which crisp flavour was our favourite?

SDC10870

Well again I am finishing with another “what a busy week!”

Next week we will be starting our new and final topic of ‘Buildings’ – more to follow soon.  Bye for now – I’m off to bed I think after such a busy week!  Mrs L.
